Towns, nature and culture within easy reach.
From Drogeham you can reach the forests of Bakkeveen in fifteen minutes, the historic city of Dokkum in half an hour, and the Wadden Sea coast in under an hour. The region offers space for rest and adventure alike.

A wooded recreation village with a swimming lake, mountain bike trails and a pretty village centre β perfect for a day in nature.
Dokkum
One of Friesland's finest historic fortified towns, with canals, ramparts and charming terraces in the heart of the old centre.

De Buwepleats is easily reached via the A7 motorway (exit Drachten or Surhuisterveen). Free parking on the grounds. Fuel in Surhuisterveen (5 km) or Buitenpost (8 km).
By bike
The Frisian hedgerow landscape is ideal for cycling β flat, spacious and virtually traffic-free. Bring your own bike or hire one locally. Cycle nodes 10, 11 and 56 are within easy reach.
On foot
Walking routes begin almost at the front door. The Friese Woudenpad long-distance trail passes through the area, offering day walks of 10 to 25 km through the hedgerow landscape.
Public transport
Bus stop Drogeham approx. 500 m away. Line 55 connects to Buitenpost (train to Leeuwarden and Groningen) and Surhuisterveen. Plan your journey at 9292.nl.

De WΓ’lden β a landscape to get lost in.
De Buwepleats sits in the heart of the Frisian Woodlands β a small-scale hedgerow landscape of tree lines, streams and open fields. The quiet here is remarkable: no motorways, no industry, just wind, birdsong and the scent of grass.
Twenty kilometres away lies the National Park Drents-Friese Wold: vast heathlands, pine forests and shifting sand dunes. Forty-five kilometres on is the Lauwersmeer, an internationally protected bird reserve on the Wadden Sea.
For birdwatchers, this region is exceptional. The Frisian Woodlands are home to dozens of nesting species, and near Lauwersoog rare migratory birds and harbour seals can be seen year-round.
